Breaking News getting our news desk is that King Charles III, aged 75, has been diagnosed with cancer and will be scaling back public appearances on medical advice to reduce in-person interactions, Buckingham Palace revealed on Monday.

King Charles diagnosed with cancer. He'll postpone his responsibilities to undergo treatment.

This announcement contrasts with historical practices of concealing monarchs’ health issues, as noted by royal commentators. The palace disclosed that the cancer was identified during a recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement.

The news follows a week after both Kate and King Charles were released from a private London clinic following medical procedures. The king underwent a “corrective procedure” for an enlarged prostate, while Kate, aged 42, had unspecified abdominal surgery on January 17.

“His Majesty has now begun a series of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public engagements,” the statement continued.

The statement also mentioned that the king chose to disclose his diagnosis partly to prevent speculation about his health and also “in the hope it may aid public understanding for all those worldwide affected by cancer.”

“At this time, no additional information is being provided, except to clarify that his Majesty does not have prostate cancer,” the palace confirmed.

King Charles III, Queen Camilla, and other family members attended Christmas Day services last year at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk.

“During this time, his Majesty will maintain his responsibilities for State affairs and official documentation as usual.” Therefore, Charles will proceed with meetings with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, while Queen Camilla will uphold her commitments.

The leaders of Australia and Canada, where Charles serves as head of state, extended their best wishes for his swift recovery. U.S. President Joe Biden expressed concern and planned to call Charles. “Facing a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery requires hope and tremendous bravery,” Biden remarked. “Jill and I join the people of the United Kingdom in praying for His Majesty’s speedy and complete recovery.”

Charles personally informed his immediate family about his cancer diagnosis. Prince Harry, his younger son, will travel to the UK to visit him in the coming days, as reported by a source close to the Duke of Sussex. Harry, now residing in California with his American wife Meghan and their two children, withdrew from royal duties in 2020.

Having waited longer than any previous British heir to ascend to the throne, Charles’s first year as king was defined by his coronation—a grand ceremonial event of great significance in Britain, characterized by elaborate displays of ceremony and tradition.
